Kiwican

Today's catchphrase was 'we use our manners everyday, to live our lives the kiwican way'

Swimming

The water is getting warmer, and with our swimming always after lunch this term, even warmer still. Don't forget your togs, towel AND Deming cap every school day!

Duck feeding

Today we started to learn how to care for our school ducks. We got to feed and count the ducks today.

So great to be back at school yesterday, and an extra added bonus to be able to spend some time with Whaea Gina in the sunshine learning about shotput pushing.

Bouncy eggs

Did you see our bouncy eggs? They were left in our jars of vinegar for the entire lockdown period. We had some fantastic discussion around why they were so big before we bounced them on the bench.

Whare pukapuka

Don't forget to bring your library books on Tuesdays - tamariki are able to borrow 2 books each week from our whare pukapuka if they remember to bring back the previously borrowed pukapuka

Kapahaka

It was great to get back into kapahaka this week. The tamariki are making great progress with their short haka and waiatas too.

Ukelele

Ukepe with Matua Tupps is great fun and a great way to engage both sides of our learning brains.

Working with clay

This week we had a go at making a traditional Maori anchor out of clay. It was great learning how to manipulate and work the clay, building the muscles in our hands and wrists too.

Shared chapter books

We have started reading shared chapter books in class. This is fantastic learning for our tamariki, helping us to hold stories in our head over multiple lessons and days, making predictions about stories and talking about authors intentions over longer stories.
We really enjoyed reading the enormous crocodile, and have already started George's marvelous medicine!

The wiki o te reo maori

This week we have been embedding lots of our te two into our daily interactions - but we also learnt a new game!
Tokuhia ngā tangata? Toku rua! Toku rima! Toku waru!
Ask your tamariki about this game in your whare 🙂

Back to school - week 8!

As we start back to our first full week of learning since we went into lockdown during week 4 the tamariki are having a blast with a mix of old and new games in class, welcoming new members to our Rimu Whanau, and getting back into familiar routines. Today we got to see our wonderful kiwican instructors again to continue learning about relisience. Tomorrow we will have kapa haka, library, te reo, ukelele and some experiments to explore our sense of hearing.

Reading to an audience

Scout and Lilly were invited to read their journals to Kauri class today. They did an excellent job using strong confident voices.

Karaoke time

Our lesson with Matua Tupps today was karaoke singing. It was good fun and the tamariki showed great resilience and confidence getting up to sing into the microphones!

Goodbye Millie

We wish Millie the best on her new adventure yesterday. We know she is going to have the most amazing time at her new school, and can't wait for her to come say hello and tell us all about it when she can!

Buddy reading

It's still so great being able to read to and with our buddy's twice a week. It's wonderful watching the confidence grow of both junior and senior students as the year progresses.

Buddy flowers

Last week we learnt how to harvest harakeke and make putiputi with our buddy class.
